V60 vs Chemex: What Is the Difference?
The same family, a different cup
V60 and Chemex both use controlled pouring over ground coffee. Yet brewer shape, filter thickness and flow behaviour change extraction and texture.
The useful question is not which is universally better, but which cup character you prefer.
The V60 profile
Its conical shape and large opening give the brewer strong control over pouring speed and grind. A well-adjusted recipe can produce an aromatic, lively and clearly defined cup.
V60 is especially attractive for guests who want to experience floral and fruit-driven origins such as Ethiopia, Kenya or Costa Rica.
The Chemex profile
Chemex paper is generally thicker. It retains more oils and fine particles, creating a cleaner, softer and more transparent cup.
The carafe form also works well for sharing, allowing several guests to follow how flavours change as the coffee cools.
Origin and recipe
Using the same grind, ratio and pour for every bean is rarely ideal. A denser coffee and a delicate Ethiopian coffee may need different flow and temperature decisions.
At Ethiopia Coffee — by Ethiopian Brew Co.®, selecting the method is accompanied by adapting the recipe to the origin.
Which should you choose?
Choose V60 for a more expressive and lively cup. Choose Chemex for clarity, softness and a shareable service.
